Briefly describe the design highlights or unique features of this project:

JHA provided architectural and engineering services for the interior build-out of Holy Ghost Distillery, a craft distillery located in Kidder Township, PA. While the building shell was provided by Conestoga Builders, JHA was responsible for designing and permitting the interior spaces to meet functional, technical, and regulatory requirements.

What specific challenges did you face during this project, and how did JHA Companies solve them?

The interior program included employee restrooms, a utility room, an open production floor for distillation equipment, and two separate control areas for alcohol storage. One of the primary challenges was integrating the specialized needs of distillery operations into a pre-engineered building shell while maintaining full compliance with applicable codes and regulations. JHA delivered architectural layout planning as well as electrical and plumbing design services. Particular attention was given to code compliance, including fire protection measures, hazardous material storage, ADA accessibility for employees, and mechanical systems coordination. The team worked closely with local code officials to address the unique considerations involved in alcohol production and storage. The resulting space is a streamlined and efficient production facility that meets stringent regulatory standards while supporting the client’s long-term operational needs.
