Although Levin Marling works at JHA companies’ location in St. Clairsville, Ohio, he lives across the river in nearby Wheeling, West Virginia. “I grew up in West Virginia,” he says, “I have lived in West Virginia my whole life. Anybody that knows me knows that I love West Virginia. It might not be a great state all the time, but I can’t imagine living anywhere else.”
Levin is a graduate of both the University of Akron and Belmont College, and while his solid educational foundation gave him plenty of options as a graduate, he ultimately chose to work for Joe Hunt and JHA Companies: “I interviewed with just shy of a dozen places, and something about JHA just seemed right.”
Levin and his wife Jaclyn have been together for twelve years (eight of them married). Their son, Anthony, is approaching his third birthday. “He’s basically our everything right about now. He keeps us on our toes. He wakes up and it’s just go-go-go. We try to do as much as we can, while we can, with him. Going for walks down on the trail, the zoo, everything and anything to spend time with him, soaking it up while we can.”
Levin is a Survey Technician at JHA. He recently moved into an office role after several years in the field. “I prep the field work for the field crew, I do the research, explain what we’re doing. They gather all the data out in the field for me. I will then bring it into AutoCAD, import the points, the line work, and then I work up the final product.”
Of JHA’s three Core Values, Levin’s favorite is People Matter Most. He was particularly impressed with the compassion showed by JHA founder/owner Joe Hunt during the dark days of the Covid era. “We took everything to our houses. I was working out of my basement. I had all the equipment set up and me and my coworker, we would meet there. Even when we didn’t have a whole lot of work, he made a point to use that time to help with training, professional development, just fine tuning your skills and ultimately just getting better at what you do. Seeing how he cares about his employees, and wants to help everybody get better, that’s something you don’t really see at a lot of other companies.”
