For JHA Project Leader Caleb Anderson, home has always been Milan, Pennsylvania, where he grew up, built his life, and found the values that guide him both personally and professionally. “I’ve been there my entire life so far. Never have moved out of there besides college. So, I’m really a homebody, I guess,” he shares.
Life in Milan shaped him early on. With acres of land to roam, he spent his childhood hunting and fishing alongside his father and grandfather and enjoying the outdoors with his close-knit family of four. He eventually pursued higher education at Penn College of Technology in Williamsport, where he earned both an associate’s degree in surveying and a bachelor’s in civil engineering technology.
Today, family remains at the center of his life. He and his wife, Shannon, are raising two children, Charlotte, age seven, and Parker, age five. Much of their family time is spent outdoors, whether in the garden, playing with the kids, or enjoying the changing seasons. “We’re big into gardening currently. I’d say I’m a hobby gardener. I’m not a master gardener of any means. Besides gardening we enjoy just being outside watching the kids play. Towards fall and wintertime, a lot of my pastime is in waterfowl and deer hunting, and I really love being outdoors with friends and enjoying that time.”
Caleb’s journey with JHA began over thirteen years ago during the oil and gas boom. “JHA was busy. I heard about a position opening through a friend that worked at JHA and gave him a call. And it was like ‘come on down, have a talk.’ And that was that. I’ve been here ever since.”
Starting out as a civil drafter/designer, he steadily grew into new responsibilities and is now a Project Leader. Looking back, he reflects on how rewarding that progression has been:
“as a project leader, it’s been a transition from completing that task on my own as a drafter to achieving a larger goal through others and guiding them through what they need to do on that day to complete that task. It has really been wholesome to see that transition.”
Why has Caleb stayed at JHA for thirteen years? “Things that come to mind looking back on the thirteen years here at JHA are how we grow as a group is really unique, and we seem to always want to continue growing. We focus on that team mentality, and I think that’s why we have a tight knit bond—and produce good work. We’re efficient at what we’re doing, but I think it’s also just the willingness to help each other and I think that’s why we have a unique and great team here. I love being part of that.”
