Luzerne County Head Start retained JHA Companies to assist in ongoing property improvement projects for their building in the city of Wilkes Barre. Funding sources required project cost estimating and scope determination prior to project development to obtain approval for funds. A succinct project schedule was also required to deliver funding within the allotted timeframe.
The Head Start aimed to update and repair one of the building façades as well as replace a loading dock at the main entrance of the building. JHA and Luzerne County Head Start worked together to navigate a winter construction schedule due to the funding timeline. In 6 months, all aspects of the project were able to be completed; including land survey, civil design, compiling specifications and construction documents for bid, and performing construction administrative duties for the construction phase.
The façade repair portion of the project required minimally invasive repairs to the building to improve the curb appeal and extend the longevity of the building exterior.
Finding time to pour the concrete in sub-freezing temperatures proved to be one of the larger challenges of the construction administrative process. JHA Companies was able to work in conjunction with the contractor to complete the project on time and under budget. The Luzerne County Head Start now has a safe and accessible entrance for the use of the families and children they serve.
