At JHA Companies, we believe that passion, curiosity, and a willingness to learn are key measures of success—and CAD Technician Michael Klein is a perfect example of that.
Michael grew up near Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, where he graduated from Big Spring High School before attending Shippensburg University to study history. “I like to read a lot of history still, and the occasional novel every now and then.”
Though his background wasn’t in engineering or drafting, Michael found a path into the field in an unexpected way. “I responded to a want ad from Carl Bert who had a position up for a CAD draftsman,” he explains. “I didn’t have any experience in that beforehand. He put an ad in the paper saying, ‘help wanted, no experience necessary, will train.’ And I was looking for something new, so I got a job with him. A few years later, Carl’s company was bought out by JHA, and that’s how I ended up here.”
Michael focuses on stormwater design—drafting plans and performing calculations for a variety of applications. “Basically, all the experience I have doing stormwater and engineering is from working here,” he says. “It’s been interesting. I’ve been learning a lot.”
Although his degree didn’t directly lead him to this work, Michael sees a connection in the skills and mindset he brings. “I don’t know if my degree or prior experience has been particularly relevant for this job, but I enjoy working on the computer.”
Outside of work, Michael enjoys a peaceful, grounded lifestyle, and spends much of his time outdoors with his dogs. When he’s not exploring nature, he’s likely reading or gaming, keeping his mind engaged and his curiosity sharp.
When asked what keeps him at JHA, his answer is simple and sincere: “I enjoy the work that I do, and I like the people I work with.”
We’re proud to have Michael as part of the JHA team—bringing thoughtful design, quiet determination, and a genuine love of learning to every project he touches.
