In a world facing deep physical and spiritual needs, Engineering Ministries International (EMI) stands at the intersection of faith and professional design, bringing hope to vulnerable communities through architecture, engineering, and construction. EMI’s mission is to restore dignity, offer hope, and reflect God’s love through transformational design projects.
For organizations like JHA Companies, a multidisciplinary engineering and surveying firm, partnering with EMI is not just about engineering and design—it’s about fulfilling a higher purpose. JHA’s Founder/Owner, Joe Hunt, puts it best:
“Partnering with EMI is a natural extension of our mission at JHA Companies—to use our God-given talents to serve others. Through this partnership, we extend our reach beyond daily projects, bringing hope to communities worldwide while also enriching our team’s experience, allowing them to grow, serve, and find deeper purpose in their work.”
Joe’s words reflect EMI’s core values of Design, Discipleship, and Diversity. Centered on Jesus Christ, EMI serves the global Church by:
SIL Senegal Office Campus, Thies, Senegal

Founded in 1982, EMI is a network of Christian design professionals who develop people, design structures, and construct facilities that serve communities. Their vision is to see people restored by God and the world restored through design.
By designing and constructing essential facilities—such as hospitals, schools, orphanages, and clean water systems—EMI partners with Christian workers, pastors, and nonprofits who share a vision to help the poor and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
From offices around the world, EMI’s staff of over 100, including dedicated interns, work to bring practical solutions to communities in need. Since 1982, EMI has completed more than 1,000 relief and development projects in over 90 countries.
What makes EMI unique is its model of blending in-house project managers with volunteer architects, engineers, land surveyors, and construction managers from across the globe. These volunteers donate their time and travel costs, joining EMI teams to offer clients high-quality design while serving in a mission that reflects God’s love in a tangible way.
In the past year alone, EMI worked on 83 projects, closed out many more, and donated over 63,000 hours of professional service to client partners.
Whether you are an engineer, architect, designer, or simply someone who wants to make a difference, there’s a place for you in EMI’s story of hope and restoration.
