Briefly describe the design highlights or unique features of this project:

JHA Companies worked closely with the leadership at Woodloch Resorts to develop a permanent solution for the seasonal patio dining area at the Woodloch Springs Clubhouse. This well-loved space, overlooking the picturesque golf course, was a popular setting for casual dining and small events. Traditionally covered by a large canvas awning, the patio had become increasingly susceptible to damage from severe weather, prompting the resort to explore a more durable, long-term structure.

What specific challenges did you face during this project, and how did JHA Companies solve them?

The design process presented several unique challenges. JHA had to account for ADA-compliant access to nearby restrooms, the proximity of existing building structures that limited foundation options, and a nearby winding golf cart path that constrained the footprint. Additionally, the design needed to preserve views from both the upper-level windows and the patio itself, while aligning with the clubhouse’s architectural style and accommodating planned future updates. As the project neared design completion, another weather event tore the existing canopy, reinforcing the need for a long-term solution. However, with spring approaching and material lead times extending, Woodloch opted to replace the damaged awning temporarily to maintain use of the patio for the upcoming season. The permanent structure design has since been put on hold for future implementation. JHA’s work has laid a strong foundation for a permanent enhancement of the space, providing a thoughtful and thoroughly vetted design that can be reactivated when timing aligns with operational needs and priorities.
