Briefly describe the design highlights or unique features of this project:
JHA provided architectural and structural design for a revamped amphitheater in the heart of Camp Ramah’s Pennsylvania campus. The existing performance space consists of a concrete pad “Stage” with the lake as backdrop and a series of wood benches installed up the hillside. Over the years camp has outgrown the seating area and the wood has fallen into disrepair.
JHA provided preliminary architectural and structural design services for the revitalization of an outdoor amphitheater at the heart of Camp Ramah’s Pennsylvania campus.
What specific challenges did you face during this project, and how did JHA Companies solve them?
The existing performance area featured a concrete pad stage with a lake backdrop, complemented by tiered wooden bench seating along the hillside. Over time, the seating capacity became insufficient for the camp’s growing population, and the wooden elements had deteriorated significantly.
JHA was engaged to develop schematic design concepts focused on expanding seating, incorporating durable, low-maintenance materials, and reimagining the amphitheater as a prominent and enduring landmark within the campus.
The client’s main goals were to be able to accommodate their growing camp, use materials that had longevity and permanence, and transform the amphitheater into more of a camp landmark.
