Briefly describe the design highlights or unique features of this project:
In 2018, JHA assisted the camp with developing infrastructure and building design for Lewis Village, a group of 5 bunks with a shared bath house and outdoor space. In 2023, Poyntelle's growing camp attendance required the existing bunks to be replaced with larger ones that could accommodate additional campers as well as bathrooms in each bunk.
What specific challenges did you face during this project, and how did JHA Companies solve them?
A challenge ever present with summer camp and more specifically bunk design is how to maximize the space so as to allow for the goal number of campers to reside comfortably and with a sense of personal space and ownership within shared living quarters. The bunks were divided into two to create smaller groups within the larger footprint divided by the shared shower/toilet space. Cubby closets were added for additional organized personal storage that would not encroach on communal spaces. Front porches were also incorporated to encourage easy transition to the shared outdoor spaces.
