Briefly describe the design highlights or unique features of this project:
As part of its long-range vision, IHC sought to revitalize its lakefront by removing several aging camp buildings. To replace the displaced functions—namely a flexible space for group assemblies and an evening canteen—the camp repurposed a portion of its adjacent sports fields to create a new, centrally located multiuse facility.
What specific challenges did you face during this project, and how did JHA Companies solve them?
JHA Companies collaborated closely with MidAtlantic Timber Frames and the camp's leadership to bring the vision of a dynamic, iconic, yet welcoming structure to life. Designed to serve multiple programmatic needs while anchoring a new focal point at the heart of the camp, the building balances rustic character with functional adaptability.
Faced with an aggressive timeline, the project demanded seamless coordination and communication among all stakeholders, including the general contractor, timber frame design-build team, building designers, structural engineers, and the camp’s ownership. JHA played a key role in aligning technical design elements with aesthetic and operational goals, ensuring that the structure was both durable and deeply integrated with the camp's identity.
The completed facility stands as a new landmark at IHC—a symbol of thoughtful planning, collaboration, and enduring camp tradition—ready to support the next generation of campers and experiences.
