For this 2021 project, JHA began construction for NEPA Community Healthcare’s dental clinic. One of the requirements for the federal program for the health center is providing primary care, behavioral health, women’s health, and dental care. When the project came to fruition, JHA fully supported the project and became involved early on. When JHA looked at the available space for the proposed clinic, they had to bring in outside stakeholders such as the doctor, staff members, and equipment supplier for input before starting the grant process. Developing the permit plans, plumbing, and HVAC layout were some of the first steps for JHA’s Architectural Designer.
While JHA formulated their next step in the process, they strove to accommodate all the operatories and designing based on the layout that the client wanted for the dental area. JHA and NEPA continued to work collaboratively to fully understand the needs for the clinic while working on the existing layout such as plumbing, HVAC, and contractors’ requirements. JHA reevaluated the original estimates and discovered that the dental clinic was heading over budget. This required JHA and the client to make some concussion decisions together, but also advise NEPA as to what they could do to the design to reduce cost. These changes were made early on, which allowed the budget to come in line with the funding.
Mary Weatheral, CEO of NEPA Community Healthcare, said, “JHA was instrumental in the establishment and the growth of NEPA’s Community Health Center in Montrose.”
